During my tenure as an educator at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design), I've had the privilege to witness firsthand the transformation of budding designers. From their introductory classes, where many were still grappling with the basics and defining their own styles, to their final portfolio reviews, a discernible evolution was evident. It wasn’t just in their design skills, but in their understanding of what they wanted from their professional lives and, more broadly, from life itself.
This generation of designers, largely composed of Gen Z and younger millennials, have aspirations and perspectives molded by a distinct set of global experiences, technological shifts, and socio-cultural evolutions.
Opportunity for Growth
When these designers first began their journey, they were eager to learn and soak up everything the world of design had to offer. As they progressed, it became clear that their appetite for learning wasn't just a phase—it was an intrinsic part of who they were.
